Dave Gerstner
I am thrilled to be an assistant coach on the Virginia Lacrosse Club (VLC) 2034 team, where I am passionate about helping young athletes grow both on and off the field. Coaching the VLC 2034 team allows me to share my love for the game while fostering a positive and competitive environment that encourages hard work, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
I grew up playing lacrosse and hockey for Canandaigua Academy, where my passion for sports first took root. With 23 years of experience in education and a professional license in physical/health education, I bring a unique perspective to coaching, combining my knowledge of child development with my deep understanding of athletic skill development. My coaching philosophy is centered on developing players’ athleticism and fundamental lacrosse skills, focusing on the kinesiological concepts in the game to enhance each athlete's performance and confidence.
Over the past 26 years, I have coached multiple sports, including lacrosse, hockey, basketball, and flag football, which has shaped my holistic approach to athletic development. Currently, I am in my fifth season coaching CYA lacrosse for both boys and girls, where I continue to build strong connections with players and families in the community.
Lacrosse is not just a sport for me; it’s a family affair. My daughter, Avonlea, plays on the CYA girls 5/6 team, and my son, Cavin, competes on one of the CYA 10U teams and proudly represents the VLC 2034 team. Watching my children grow through sports and having the opportunity to coach alongside them inspires me daily. I am dedicated to cultivating a love for lacrosse and helping each player reach their full potential, both as athletes and as individuals.
